Ancient Kelaniya Temple Sri Lanka

Kelaniya Temple(CLICK FOR MORE DETAILS) is one of the oldest in Sri Lanka with a lot of History behind it. For more Details Click Here.

I had the opportunity to pay a visit to the Rajamaha Vihara recently and managed to get some photographs of this beautiful Ancient Marvel. Though the current Vihara is a renovation of the old temple that was destroyed by the Portuguese, it is considered one of the most sacred nevertheless due to it's history, indicating Lord Buddha had visited 2,600 years ago.

Kithsiri Mevan Temple adjoining the Kelaniya Temple - Suppose to have relics of Lord Buddha and 500 Arihath Sanga's that came along with.

This Painting details the bringing of the Sacred Relict of the Tooth of Lord Buddha to Sri Lanka by Prince Dantha and Princess Hemamala and is a wall painting at the Budu Ge of the temple.

The Bell Tower or the tower where the Gong was fixed. Tower supposedly is quite ancient and so is the gong hung in it.

A huge statue of Vihara Maha Devi - Mother of King Dutu Gemunu which is in the temple premises. She is the daughter of then king of the area (When Sri Lanka had 3 Kingdoms).
